January 2023 Book Review

This month I read two books. Confess and Ugly Love, both by Colleen Hoover. Here are my thoughts on both of those.

The first book I read this month was Ugly Love by Colleen Hoover. Here is an excerpt describing what this book is about.

“When Tate Collins meets airline pilot Miles Archer, she doesn’t think it’s love at first sight. They wouldn’t even go so far as to consider themselves friends. The only thing Tate and Miles have in common is an undeniable mutual attraction. Once their desires are out in the open, they realize they have the perfect set-up. He doesn’t want love, she doesn’t have time for love, so that just leaves the sex. Their arrangement could be surprisingly seamless, as long as Tate can stick to the only two rules Miles has for her.

Never ask about the past.
Don’t expect a future.

They think they can handle it, but realize almost immediately they can’t handle it at all.

Hearts get infiltrated.
Promises get broken.
Rules get shattered.
Love gets ugly.”

Taken directly from the back of the book. I did really enjoy this book. It was able to hold my attention, and the reason we find out why Miles is the way he is happens to be heartbreaking and makes the build up to it that much better. It’s worth a read, although I did not really enjoy the writing from Miles’ point of view. However, it is connected to other stories written by Colleen Hoover, which is interesting.

Rating: 4/5 stars

The second book I read was Confess by Colleen Hoover. Here is an excerpt on the book’s plot.

“Auburn Reed is determined to rebuild her shattered life and she has no room for mistakes. But when she walks into a Dallas art studio in search of a job, she doesn’t expect to become deeply attracted to the studio’s enigmatic artist, Owen Gentry.

For once, Auburn takes a chance and puts her heart in control, only to discover that Owen is hiding a huge secret. The magnitude of his past threatens to destroy everything Auburn loves most, and the only way to get her life back on track is to cut Owen out of it—but can she do it?”

This excerpt is also directly from the back of the book. This story was a little more fast paced than Ugly Love, and I connected with the characters more. I also enjoyed the twist ending of this story as well.

Rating: 4.5/5 stars

Thank you for reading! Stay tuned to see what I read next!
